Why I should be allowed to go to Cheer Worlds!

Recently the level 5 team at my gym got an invitation to travel to Disney World, Orlando, Fl to compete in the biggest competition in existence: Cheerleading Worlds! This competition is hosted by ESPN and has teams from all over the world in every country! I really want to compete at this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, where my dream could really come true.

I think my mom should let me go, no matter what the cost. It’s very expensive but  This competition is every all-star cheerleaders dream. I know we won’t win, we are a TINY gym competing against the biggest names in the industry, but to be able to say “I competed at worlds” would be the biggest accomplishment of my life.  Cheerleading is my everything and competing here would make my..World.

Another reason my mom should send me would be because I’m writing a blog post about it. If it’s important enough to share my problem with a blogging community then it’s important enough to pay for. I can imagine myself sitting backstage the bright lights shining around the globe shaped dome, the nerves of the day running through my bloodstream with a pressure in my stomach that makes me want to vomit. They will announce “Now on the stage is the TECC Hellcats from Austin, Texas” people will scream and clap and it will be my turn to show the world what I have trained for.

I cannot wait to go worlds – if these reasons are enough to convince her allow me to go.

Cheer Competition Practices

As we near one of the biggest events of our long, hard season the excitement in me builds up. But so does the intensity of practice. Our once semi-laid-back practices have turned into three and a half hours of pure torture, in preparation for Cheer America Nationals.

The second the clocks strikes 7:00 all of our feet hit the blue mat and we run until we cannot even imagine what normal breathing was once like. We will then practice our routine over and over and be yelled at until everyone of us 32 athletes are doing everything in perfection With in sync timing. “Doing your best” or “Trying” aren’t options – no matter how badly you are injured or not mentally ready – perfection is the requirement.

After practice and into the next week after this competition all that will be going through my head is “5,6,7,8…” and “Get up and keep going!” The bruises, scrapes and broken bones will be worth it when we are sitting together back in Austin with our National Champion jackets on our back and smiles on our faces.

These Shoes Were Made for Tumbling

These shoes, worn down through the soles, with every edge rounded into the smoothest curves.

These shoes, look dirty and old, far from the bright white when I first got them.

These shoes, have made me stand before my greatest challenges, mental and physical.

These shoes and I did not get along at the beginning, then then wove their way into my heart.

The thought of having to replace these shoes, despite our history, is concerning me and filling me with guilt.

Maybe, there isn’t another shoe quite like these shoes.
